Pretty simple, but very good. A lot of people ask me how I make my beans. The secret to good refried beans is a good brand of beans and a lot of bacon grease. I always choose Kuner’s beans, but really any will do. It’s probably better to start out with a vegetarian or low fat version. Tastes like nothing else matters.
Refried Beans
1 can of refried beans (standard 14 oz size)
6 oz of bacon (1/2 package. farmland is very good for this)
2 tsp pickled jalepeno juice (optional)
Chop up the bacon into very small pieces. It helps to freeze the bacon before you do this. Add bacon to saucepan and cook on medium heat until bacon is a dark color. This may take longer than you think.
Skim out the cooked bacon and place it on paper towels. Discard all but 1/3 of the grease. A good way to dispose of grease is to pour it on paper towels. Add the can of beans to the grease and stir until very hot. Add the cooked bacon bits. Stir. Add the optional jalepeno juice and stir. Serve!
