Sourdough Pretzels and Pretzel Bread

Pretzels are easy to make and fun for kids. Use the sourdough large batch to make 12 pretzels. You can even try boiling a 1 pound loaf of bread into a giant pretzel. That works too!

After the dough is made and it rises and rests, divide it into 12 pieces. Roll each piece 16 inches long. Twist each one into a pretzel shape or be creative. They could even be long pretzel snakes. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.

Combine 12 cups of water with 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Bring to a boil.

Drop 3 pretzels in the water. When they float to the top, cook another minute longer. Remove and drain. Place 6 pretzels at a time on a greased baking sheet.

Beat 1 egg and brush the egg onto each pretzel. Sprinkle each pretzel with kosher salt and then if you like try some with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and granulated garlic.

Bake pretzels for 15 minutes at 450 degrees. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a rack.
