Not having a plan with kids on a cold, cold day is recipe for disaster. Everyone could use some good scheduled distractions. Turn the TV off, hide the Nintendo DS, stop eating chips, put on some fun, silly music.
Here’s a start of a list of things to do to make the cold day fun.
- Try to burn paper in a sunny window with a magnifying glass – FAIL
- Using strong magnets under a board or table, have a bottle cap race
- Grow some salt crystals
- Have kids make ‘soup’ using water, dried beans, spices, raisins, etc. Give them each a spoon and a big bowl
- Make a zoo out of paper, draw, color and cut out all the animals
- Sprout some seeds and beans
- Make homemade play-dough
- Use paper mache and some balloons to make masks
- Conduct a scavenger hunt
- Setup a painting station
- Get out a puzzle
